SANYO eneloop Battery Campaign
SANYO Energy Solutions is a premier manufacturer of powerful, energy efficient products. Americans deposit up to 5.7 billion disposable batteries into landfills each year! SANYO eneloop batteries can be recharged up to 2100 times, which means the purchase and use of a single eneloop cell can keep hundreds of batteries from entering landfills.
Tasked with the responsibility of creating a campaign for eneloop, I first focused on how this new technology affects our blue planet. Then, how SANYO is driven to generate a lifestyle powered by rechargeable energy. I made it my mission to find a way to visually show the transformation of a world of disposable clutter into one of reusable endurance.
With the initial success of the eneloop battery rollout, I worked directly with SANYO executives to increase business by delivering an eneloop proposal to Costco. I developed a custom campaign, complete with exclusive clam shell pack and collateral materials, specifically to impress the Costco executives. The clam shell pack was to compete directly in opposition to Costco’s existing Duracell AA brand. After returning from the meeting, I was informed the design package secured our account with Costco. This wasn’t SANYO’s first attempt at allurring Costco into a collaboration, but it was nice to know the creative secured the business. This new business not only opened the door for eneloop, but also paved the way for many more collaborations with the Costco franchise.

CHALLENGE
Broaden eneloop's appeal without alienating its core audience was the challenge. Uniting these two audiences was the key to a successful reloach in the Costco market.

Help to focus the eneloop brand message by building a rich environmental transformation from just another Costco product, to a compelling and aspirational lifestyle.
Strategy
Develop a unique eneloop package exclusive to Costco that appeals to the strengths of its environmental footprint. Energy is everywhere around us and engaging nature was a must in the development of our creative. Also, understanding our customers was paramount to a successful launch.
Seamlessly working with executives, we were able to craft a package that competed head-to-head with Duracell on store shelves and captured the eco-friendly impression and robust features that make it viable.
